Great Simulated LED Nixie Tube Clock
I was watching a video on Curiosity Stream, and they were showing some footage from the Cold War era, in the video were Nixie tubes. I remember the Nixie tubes. My father took me somewhere as a kid on a military base, and they had Nixie tube displays. I also remember a Ham radio operator experimenting with some. So….I searched on Amazon, and they had many Nixie tube clocks. Quite pricey 😳 Anywhere from $150 to over $200. However, I found this one for $67, and ordered it. I was shocked when I received it, the box showed an LED Simulated Nixie Clock(see picture), not…how it was advertised on Amazon. However, a real Nixie tube runs on 170 volts, so thats quite the current drain. And real Nixie tubes are quite hot, there over 100 degrees. The simulated LED Nixie tubes look like the real thing, and change time like the real thing. This simulated LED Nixie tube clock runs on only a 5 volt phone charger(not included), and these Nixie tubes are slightly warm to the touch. Also to note: real Nixie tubes have an amber glow like on an incandescent bulb. Since this is LED. You can make it any color you want, full spectrum. Note: this clock needs to be in a dark room, not a sunny room. It looks GREAT at night. To set the time on this clock, or change the color of the display. Go to Settings on your phone, then choose Wi-Fi. In Wi-Fi select the ClockTeck Wi-Fi network. That will load the ClockTeck setup screen. Select your Wi-Fi network from the screen, and enter your Wi-Fi password, and login. The setup screen defaults to another language(see picture). Select the radio dot for English. Then change the UTC to your time(web search it). Then select Sync Time. On the bottom of the Setup screen you can change the color of the display, and update the firmware.

I bought two clocks. One for myself and the other as a gift for my brother and he loves it. The tube display with its bright colors makes you want to keep watching as it "ticks" off the time. Its been keeping time very well. There is a little bit of a learning curve to setting the time because the instructions are a little vague. The clock comes with a usb-c cord and power plug. It does make for a great gift. Only caveat is that this is a bright display and wouldn't work for someone that is a dark room sleeper. It is excellent for a living room or rec room.

We've had this clock for about 2 years. We still love it. It keeps time perfectly, I think we had an issue with a time change once, but it was quickly resolved online. We have several different types of clocks from different eras, and this continues to be a favorite. Another plus is that as they upgrade Wi-Fi software, we continue to benefit on the upgrades,as long as they haven't made lots of changes to the new clocks. I've been playing with this for about a day and a half now — and I admit some of the subtleties of programming it are still eluding me; I'm heading for a video about that one day. But not today! I've got it set up now (SOMEhow, not sure exactly how; I will not be changing it any time soon in case I can't readily get this look back) so each cube is pulsing in different random colors, and it's beautiful to look at. One of my programming stymies has been that I can't seem to get it in 12 hour mode (vs. 24-hour mode, ie military time) but I've decided I prefer 24-hour mode anyway at this point. (it gives that first cube a bit more to do!)

I have it positioned below my TV, where I previously had another "normal" clock, and at first I worried that the time was too hard to "read" on this clock, and — depending on the pulsing — it CAN take me a couple of seconds to "read" the time, during the day. (It gets much brighter in a room which is not sunlit, duh.) But I've decided I like that TOO! If you want to know the time, there it is right in front of you. But if you DON'T care about the time at the moment, it's not all "in your face" about it. (of course, you can also set it so that it does NOT pulse and change colors; but I don't think I'll be doing that any time soon.)

I love it. And, unlike the plain jane clock it's replacing, it actually seems to tell time pretty well so far, too.

    Beautiful clock, but…

So I will start by saying this is a beautiful faux nixie clock. The display is well built and mesmerizing to look at. However, I had to return it purely based on it's Wi-Fi feature.

The Wi-Fi presents itself as a static access point without password protection intended for you to connect and configure things like the time and custom colors of each tube through the use of a mini web service running on the clock. That's all fine, however, I never intended to use this feature and was happy just using the buttons on the clock directly to set modes. I accessed the Wi-Fi to secure it from the default open state and that's where I discovered that you can't and found my only gripe about this thing (and unfortunately a deal breaker for me).

You can enable password on the access point with a check box which sets a default "weak" password that you cannot change. So it's either fully open or protected with a password you can just Google.

There is no option to hide the Wi-Fi ssid broadcast (not that it creates any significant security). But more importantly there is no option to completely disable the Wi-Fi feature entirely. The manufacturer intends for you to connect the device to your home network in order to update and likely sync with ntp time services, which is fine, but I'm extremely reserved on which devices I allow on my network. So having a device accessible to anyone within 30 feet of my location is a huge concern even if it is just a clock. I would have totally kept this product if not for this security oversight. In my opinion no one should have a device in their home that isn't 100% in their control. Call me paranoid.

If a device/product offers Wi-Fi functionality of any capacity (client or server) "proper" security options should be foremost in design.

All in all, it's a pretty product and a nice spin on the old nixies with nicely etched acrylic number plates that even mimic the depth of the real ones (and use a ton less power). Brightness has a nice adjustable range and colors are vivid (likely neopixel or some variant). It runs on an espressif microcontroller and overall has a solid feel. Buttons have a little play, so they rattle if you shake it, but overall a nice device.

Kudos on the physical design, but the firmware could use a little more work to address the issues above. I was considering keeping it and writing my own to disable the Wi-Fi but I have too many projects already.

Thank you and sorry for the return.

Get the look of a nixie clock without the cost. Live out your Fallout fantasy. The clock looks great is run on usb c, cable is included but power supply is not. The instructions are very chinglish and provide you just enough information to hook up to the clock. If you can set a led alarm clock you will get the mist. But once you have it going it’s great.

Looks great but can't keep time and the wifi calibration doesn't work

I love Nixie clocks and while this one is not a real Nixie clock, it does a great job emulating one and looks very nice. That's the good part. The problem is that a clock's main job is to tell time, and this one fails at that.

It runs fast by about 2 minutes within a week or two. The specs say it uses wifi to calibrate time, but the wifi connectivity doesn't actually work. When you enter your wifi credentials it tells you it connected, but after a week when you notice the time is already off and go back to check, the app shows a wifi connectivity error.

The DST setting is also broken if where you live doesn't observe DST. There's a switch in the app to turn it off, but it resets back to on every time the power flickers or goes out. The backup battery doesn't preserve this setting for some reason. Brightness gets reset too, so you'll randomly notice the clock is way too bright and needs readjusting after a power blip.

Customer support is terrible. When I reported the issues to ClocTeck, I got an immediate response saying they'd fix it in 10 days. That never happened and my follow-up emails have been completely ignored.

So no, I cannot recommend this clock.

Need everyones help! I recently sent this message to the manufacturer of this great clock:
I have your 5 tube led light and absolutely love it. I was wondering if there is a way to automatically dim the light at night and automatically make it brighter during the day. If the app had a timer feature to do this it would be fantastic!
    They replied:
Thank you very much for your feedback. We will consider your opinion, and if many customers have similar needs to yours, we will incorporate this feature into the next firmware update.

    Best Regards,

I don't usually write reviews but I had to for this. It is absolutely stunning!! If you're a designer or someone who appreciates good design, you will love this. It was packed so well, connecting it with my mobile also allowed me to control the colors and display mode.

Pictures don't do it justice, it is much much better in real life.
